Mists of Pandaria DK talents

So, is it just me, or do all of the new DK abilities that come with the new talent system sound completely bad !@#
well i hope the new talent trees are just a rough example because most of the use full stuff for other specs ya don't get till untill mid range

light of dawn broken?

i was doing it on another toon and instead of the 3 talent points it says you get as reward i only got 1 is that a glitch or have i not done the quest right?
What?

i rolled a dk completed the quest the light of dawn and instead of the stated 3 talent point quest reward i only recieved 1 talent point

You should have 25 talent points total when you're done with the DK starter zone. Is that not the case for you?
i had heard some where leaving the starting zone with 26-28 talent points

You heard incorrectly.
well thank you for fixing that up for me
The reason, you see +3 talent points as the reward is because before the new talent trees and points coming every other level. We used to get a talent point every level. That is the old reward before the new talent system. They just never changed it in the quest text.
bit slack of blizzard isn't it not to fix there quest text

Put in a ticket and let them know it's wrong.

Newb-Friendly DK Spec?

I just made a dk for the first time. And i was wondering what dk spec would be easiest to pick up on in pvp? not late game lvl 85 pvp. But like 60-75 pvp.
I used this site > http://www.wowpopular.com/Blood/Death+Knight/Talents

Soloing cataclysm normal dungeons

what stat should I stack? mastery/parry/stamina?

4.3 Blood PvP Damage/Burst

/watch?v=AkAwakbMEAM Please like/fav/sub if u like it =)
im curios,, but one GREAT video, but 2 you answered that troll on youtube that you pvp frost but you were just displaying the damage/burst of dk.... is your gems u have now OPTIMAL for blood dk or did u leave them as for your frost spec... I am very new to dk,, wanna pvp blood and just curious,, I've been told by some that once I hit 85 i need to gem A lot into crit, and you seem to focus on strength mostly, plus some resil which IDK if we need anymore with the sets nowadays. Thats why I might of thought the gemming was more for frost, who is alot more squishy
why would you gem for crit as blood for pvp? even full crit gems and reforge will only bring you to around 10%-12% total -_- (up from 5%)

imp DS talent already gives you an additional 30% crit chance. your far better off aiming for survival or strength if you just have to add that extra 1.5k damage onto your 60k+ DS's

you already crit plenty of DS's and you already hit like a truck. specially with new vengeance going for survival will let you kill many more people than going for a lil extra crit or strength

Need advice from the experts. Please help me

Well, where to begin.. I don't claim to be amazing at my deathknight class, though I have been playing my main (this guy) for a while, and do feel as I know him fairly well. I love to PvP, and am looking forward to doing some BG's and arena.

However, I am stuck. On my spec, I always second guess myself, because I see frost offers a LOT of damage, while Unholy offers amazing deadly damage differently.

I dont know how to play Unholy amazingly well, but.. I wanna get better. I'd love some advice as to what spec I should be for PvP.

Help me out :(
Bump :(
Unholy is better for PvP, I've heard. Frankly, considering it's greater complexity and less reliance on "LOL HB HB HB HB...(oh, out of HB for now /die)", Unholy requires smarter play. If you learn to excel at it, however, you'll probably win more than if you were Frost.

Reaping Problem?

First off i'd like to state that i hav'nt played Unholy in a long time. But from what i can remember the death runes created via Reaping should revert back to blood runes after being spent.

Dont know if anything changed recently but the death runes arnt being turned into blood runes after being spent. Is this sposed to be happening or is it some kind of issue?

I only ask because its throwing off my rotation lol, if its just something i have to get used to then i will, Just wanted to know.
this must be old news or something lol

Working normally for me.

Perhaps it's a UI error?
damn lol thats what i was scared of

think reseting it would work?
Resetting what?

As in seeing if your runes behave normally with no addons enabled?
nvm i got it working. had to log out then log back in.
I've actually been having the same problem, but like you, it goes away after a while. It's pretty annoying when it happens though.

Which Stats for Unholy?

Ok so me and a friend are debating on which stats for unholy, I say haste + Mastery, he says crit only. Our Dks are our mains and we've both played unholy. Tell me who is correct.
Haste -> Crit ->Mastery. Mastery didn't fall in value so much as Crit's value rose greatly once they fixed the pet scaling issue.
You're both wrong. DKs love haste. The difference in 4.3 is that now Unholy loves Crit. So, all those items with haste and crit? Or crit and mastery? Yeah, you love those now.
Actually...Aiztam has it right, haste is top followed by crit.

Anyone else having this problem?

Since 4.3 has droped ive noticed that while im tanking im being crit by mobs and bosses. At first i just thought it was a bug and maybe my addons were causing an issue. But the last few bosses I've fought against in DS ive been getting hit very hard by crits (yes i have improved blood presence in my talent build. I've also confirmed that it is a crit and is recorded in my combat log even after turning off all addons, removing them, and all the such that your general gm would say to try and do before opening a ticket of the such about this kind of issue. So has anyone else noticed this problem?
Switch presences every time you zone in.

Acherus Knight's Set

I love that the Quest gear that I got rid of long ago is now available, but what about the starting gear? I don't see anything about that stuff being available and I kinda liked it better. Is this available and I'm just missing it (cannot log in right now but will once I can)
It's there keep going through the vendor.
You can even buy the odd trinkets / rings, oddly enough.
Thanks a lot, just have wowhead to go by for now. I will have to log in soon... Off work in 30 minutes.

Necrotic Strike Casting debuff stack?

dose the casting debuff from necrotic stack so if i have 2 dks both have Necrotic up will it increase casting time by 60%?
no it stays 30%

60% combined casting debuff would be unreasonably cruel
ty

I give up. I am terrible at Unholy

I know my set isn't complete, but !@#$ my dmg is pitiful. My rotation/priority is typically Outbreak, DT, DC, Garg(whenever it's up)NS/FS, but if I am doing it wrong don't hesitate to bash me because I am sick of Blood and doing !@#$ for dmg.
..........I really thought Tichondrius was like the best PvP server too. This is a sad day for me.
thanks for the update... we were beginning to worry what was wrong with you
Oh gee, if only an AoE spec had some decent AoE abilities like Pestilence or Death and Decay or Blood Boil or OH WAIT
Your an idiot if you think Unholy is a AoE spec... and unholy is not known for damage, but for hte ton of pressure you can put out with necrotic Strike. With your pet enraged and your garg out plus all the necros you can get off, pressure is insane.also unholy has more utility with AMZ and pet stun. Overall the better pvp spec imo.
True, I was thinking of adding SS, but every site I read says to skip it for straight NS.
My rotation/priority is typically Outbreak, DT, DC, Garg(whenever it's up)NS/FS

First things first. What in the world is "DT"? I'm a 2.2k experienced DK and even I don't know what you're talking about. Maybe I just completely blanked out on something here but you lost me on that part.

Anyways I realize you said you're gear wasn't complete but I checked it out and it seems to me that it's not just incomplete but some if it is just plain wrong. You do realize you have a ring with intellect on it right?

As far as your gear is concerned aim for this:

1.) 5% hit rating
2.) 195 spell penetration(+50 spell pen gems in gloves, belt and legs. Then +70 spell pen to cloak is the easiest way to get this)
3.) As much Strength as possible
4.) Then as much Haste as possible.

Priority list of moves should be:

1.) Chains of Ice(for initial slow and frost fever)
2.) Plague Strike(for blood plague)
***Outbreak***( if you need to refresh diseases and they are already afflicted by Chains of Ice or standing in desecration)
3.) Festering Strike(to extend duration of Chains of Ice and diseases)
4.) Necrotic Strike
5.) Deathcoil(ONLY IF Unholy blight is about to fall off or if your diseases are up and you don't have the runes to Necro strike or Festering strike)
***Make sure ghoul is also attacking your target at all times***
***Transform ghoul as often as possible***
***Summon Gargoyle when opponent is below 70% or so and you think you may get a kill***
[ First things first. What in the world is "DT"? I'm a 2.2k experienced DK and even I don't know what you're talking about. Maybe I just completely blanked out on something here but you lost me on that part.

dark transformation
Jadou,

Might I suggest pulling Talents out of Butchery, Epidemic/Contagion, and spec into Icy Reach; Lichborne.

Transforming yourself into undead and self-healing with Death Coil is an important PvP utility.

Don't be discouraged with output - unholy has a long ramp-up. Rethink your role as more utility - use the stuns/slows/interrupts, stack nectrotic strikes & keep diseases up to pressure healers, build RP for your gargoyle, then stack strength buffs and unleash. Use Death Strikes and Lichborne/DC to keep yourself up as needed.

Its a different playstyle than straight up buttonsmash DPS, and more difficult to master IMO, but it can be loads of fun to play.

EDIT: You also may want to consider rethinking the Death & Decay Glyph. Most PvP'rs avoid spending much time standing in the bad stuff. :-)

Death Strike Hitting Twice?

I don't know if i'm missing something, but death strike isn't suppose to hit twice right? Why is mine always hitting twice for the same exact damage? Seems to only happens in pvp it will hit twice and both hits register. Does it all the time.
As you can see I haven't used dancing rune weapon.

http://i44.tinypic.com/ivzg28.jpg
Your combatlog is duplicating entries. You are not actually hitting twice. Update any chat or combatlog mod you may be using.
I actually see two hits on the screen over the guys name. Ill see 27367 pop up twice over the guys head. I would think maybe its my UI, but I don't have anything custom.
It's your combatlog. It could just be an error of the standard UI, but I'm 100% sure it's duplicating entries.

Whenever it happens to me, /console reloadui fixes it.

Blood DK -- PVE -- Hit/Exp

Hi Guys,

I don't think I've stopped playing on my DK (Farkyy - Dragonblight Realm) since 4.3 hit. I'm basically in full 378 gear and I'm having a blast tanking heroics and the LFR bosses.

I'm currently sitting at 6% hit and 23 expertise which I know is highly unconventional and perhaps unneccesary. I noticed that my dps is #1 in almost every heroic that I run (25k overall, 20k single target). I'm looking to dump some hit/exp to increase my dodge/parry chance but I love the dps that I'm doing, and I HATE missing/being dodged or parried.

I'm comfortable with my character and literally never die. So I'm kind of on the fence about changing the hit/exp to dodge/parry. Anyone have any thoughts? Am I absolutely crazy for having hit/exp on my DK?

Rogue Vs DK 4.3 raid dps

Hey all I love my DK and like the combat style of my lowbe rogue(lvling). The title says it all really. Would my guild/raid be more beatifically with a rogue or a DK for dps or is even? Please and thank you
To add they dont have a DK Dps or a Rogue DPS
Yes, maybe no? That's impossible to answer given your lack of context.

Rogues offer very little in terms of raid utility, but are higher single target damage. DKs offer far more utility. DK unholy spec offer AMZ, 8% magic debuff, not sure what else. Frost offers more burst, suffers less from target switching, has the haste buff, 4% melee damage buff, better AOE damage and a better snare.

I don't know a whole lot about rogues, so you might want to go to the rogue forum to get a list of what they offer in terms of raid utility.
Hard to say really, both can be quite viable in DPS. DK is nice of you don't have a warrior, but rogues could be quite handy also with tricks. I hate to bring a personal experience into this, but I went DPS for Baleroc a while ago with a 368ilvl, and came out on top of the DPS with 29k. (2nd was a 377 mage and then a 373 rogue at 22k each.) So like i said, both cam be beneficial, just if you get a DK be careful; while we may be a great class, there are alot of other people to are just terrible with DKs.
THank you all for the answers
Combat brings the physical damage debuff, Assassination brings the spell damage debuff, and Subtlety brings the bleed debuff and the physical crit buff.

Apart from that, rogue raid utility is pretty low except on gimmick fights like Valiona/Theralion and Ultraxion, where Subtlety's incredible AOE damage mitigation and survivability come into play.

I play both classes and enjoy both.

TSG!

At the current moment,i've always played the Frost DW'ing spec in arena. However, currently decided to run TSG this coming season because of the buff to AP%. And i'm wondering if its viable to be Frost or Unholy as this comp?

And if i want to stay frost, what comp has the most viability this season?
It's my understanding that Frost works better in TSG due to its burst being more "on-demand" rather than having a ramp up time as unholy. At least in last season, I think TSG's default strategy was to immediately train down the enemy healer with massive burst up-front. That doesn't work so well if your DK needs to build up runic power for 5 death coils and his gargoyle first. Your team's holy paladin also negates the benefit from Death's Advance due to being able to hand of freedom the DK during bursts.

That completely makes sense! Thank you for clearing that up for me. Now all that's left to ask what type of number of rating do you think this comp "TSG" can attain? Hypothetically.

Once again, thank you for the clear and concise response Moriden :)

Death knights

Death knights no longer need hit and expertise but the new tier gear still has hit and expertise on it and so does a lot of the other plate gear. Could you please try to change that so it has something useful on it.
Death knight are the weakest tank in the game so far. How do you plan on making them at par with the other tank classes. I have an idea for you, increase the mastery stat so that were not having to much trouble stacking it just because of the damage in the new instances and raid. I'm not able to even stack it more than once and I have 21.66 mastery. Please try and fix this because it is a problem if you do not.

Have you thought about posting a constructive suggestion in the Death Knight Forum so that the developers or their liaison can see it?

http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/1012662/
Not every piece of gear is going to have perfect stats on it. It is your job, as the players to find the best pieces for your play style, not for Blizzard to just give it you on a silver platter.

Regardless, you concerns can go in either the Raid and Dungeon Forum or the Death Knight forum, but the Customer Support forum will be of no use to you.
Soulstealie, I can see you put some research and thought into your suggestions! Kudos!

Sadly, the developers (the peeps with the mad coding skills who actually make changes to WoW) do not read the Customer Service Forum nor do the Customer Service Forum moderators act as liaisons to the developers.

You will want to post your suggestions in the correct forum for the developers to read and consider, in this case the Death Knight class forum:

http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/1012662/

I wish you much luck and many happy (well armored) adventures!
thank for your help

Need a little advise

I'm currently attempting to get into raiding and need to maximize my DPS, was wondering if someone cud look at my gear/reforging/enchs and gems, and give me some advise on what I could work on/change gear wise to improve.

TY in advance
Replace your 353 helm and those ruthless bracers.
I meant more from a technical standpoint but thanks for the tip

For optimized gear/reforging/enchs and gems simply load up your character at AskMrRobots.com

That will optimize all your numbers without you needing to do the math.

http://www.askmrrobot.com/wow/gear/usa/lightbringer/krasp#v1-z1
I agree with Vyndish, After going to AskMrRobot.com it helped me out a lot. after all stats are just math anyway and who better to do that than a computer?

umm all plate gear does not revolve around dks buddy warriors and pallys need that gear to..please just delete this thread before you get trolled hard
Hit and Exp are still needed if you feel that you could use some more for aggro purposes.

But I don't understand the mastery comment, can you re-state that?

____

Nvm, I get it now. Seems fine to me.
I did not mean all plate gear I was meaning to say a lot of it does
Except hit and expertise are still useful. But then again, since you're 2/6 on LFR and 1/8 on normal...you'd totally know that, right? (Not to mention your other Cata raiding tiers.) Don't talk about things you have zero clue about.

Also, go enchant your cloak and gloves...

Edit: Mastery is fine. It's your gear which isn't. If your gear was better, your mastery would be much higher. Sort of ties into my about comment about you not having a clue.

any good addons out there for dk's that raid

hi all i am looking for any good addons or UI's that a dk can use in raids any suggestions
I swear by RuneWatch, though I don't use the "big" skin, I use the compact skin.

Past that, you should have DBM/BigWigs /etc...
DBM (Must) - Boss Fights
RuneWatch (Should Have) - Runes
Xperal (Optional) - Over Rides Blizzard UI Raid Frames etc..
Recount (Optional) - Records DPS / Other Stuff
OmniCC (Optional) - Shows CD on Spells
CLCDK (Optional) - Suggests Rotation but not always 100% correct. Also shows other things.
Ratingbuster (Optional) - Compare gear for upgrades.

There's so may adds that your just gonna have to try them out.
For Blood spec (tanking) I use "Blood shield Tracker" Its nice to know how much you will be healed for and an to be able to track your blood shield.

I have used Xperl and its nice but I prefer icehud. Icehud is not an override of the Blizz ui but an overlay with all the modules to be fully customized and you can choose which of the Blizz frames you want to keep instead of overriding everything. Try both Xperl and Icehud to see which you like better

and I also use healbot to keep track of my buffs and for the raid frames

CLCDK (Optional) - Suggests Rotation but not always 100% correct. Also shows other things.
This one I highly recommend, even for Blood DKs. You'll notice your dps go up.
Icehud - Turn off everything but the Rune tracker on it and you have a nice tracker that works with....
OmniCC - Shows timers on Runes and spells in a nice clean style.
NTK/Power Auras Classic/Weak Auras - Great way to track buffs and debuffs during fights. Each does it a little differently, so you may need to fiddle with all three to find the one you like.

Critique My Blood PvE Spec?

Hey everyone. So I was wondering if you could check out my glyphs and spec for Blood. Wondering if this is an ok spec for tanking Raids? Probably 10 mans, and the easy 25 LFR :)

I will still be doing 5 man heroic runs for valor cap and running with friends for fun :)

I feel the spec I had before was different and didn't feel right. But I was wondering how this new spec I made would work :)
First, I would suggest getting those unenchanted items enchanted, so you can get further bonuses.

Second, change your rune to the Swordshattering for the extra 4% Parry that doesn't suffer from diminishing returns. Stoneskin Gargoyle is just not as good this expansion.

Third, I'd do some more reforging, primarily reforging out of Parry and into Mastery first or Dodge second. Also reforge out of any Hit or Expertise you have into either Mastery first or Dodge second. It's best to try and get your Dodge and Parry RATINGS within 200 of each as best as you can.

Fourth, the Crimson Scourge talent isn't all that great to use when raiding, especially since Blood runes are purely threat runes now (Heart Strike will get more threat than Blood Boil would). You may want to change the talent points from that into Endless Winter, so your Mind Freeze doesn't cost RP to use, useful when you need to interrupt something when necessary. Rest of it looks fine.
If it's not the spec I recommend in my sticky, my critique is to change it so that it is.

Hand of Morchok...as Human?

Hello,
So I picked up a Hand of Morchok last nite in a 10m DS. I was using 2x Treachery's Bite. After doing some research it appears to be BiS until Soul Drinker. My question, using the HoM, I lose out on my racial bonus with swords/maces. I'm making the assumption that the top end dps on HoM will more than make up for the loss of expertise.
Is it worth reforging to make up the additional expertise and be at the 26 softcap for my the axe? Using the stat weights, my initial thought is yes. However, I don't want to ignore the fact that the additional expertise is fairly useless on my OH sword.
Perhaps it would be more beneficial to simply ride at 23/26 expertise for my MH/OH and reforge to haste which is equally beneficial regardless of weapon type? I'd appreciate any insight.

Thanks,
Smoke
I would imagine it's worth it, considering just how much harder the MH is going to hit then the 378 sword. So being expertise capped is still a benefit.
I suppose the difference is really only a handful of expertise vs. haste. I wish I knew what the stat weight for expertise was above the softcap so I could crunch the maths. As it is now, expertise is significantly better than haste below the softcap. I'm not sure if the relationship is linear but I would imagine it'll only add up to a few hundred dps difference at most.
The difference is going to be negligible amounts of dps right now, but you may as well reforge for when you get a second axe.
If I understand correctly, OH expertise is worth basically nothing since our special OHs don't get dodged.

http://elitistjerks.com/f72/t125293-death_knight_cataclysm_simple_q/p4/#post2021670

I would just simulate the "reforge to expertise cap" and "don't" setups, compare, and go from there.

Expertise is worth 0 above the cap because specials and white hits follow the same table - 6.5% chance of dodge.
That sort of confirms my fears. Basically all the expertise above the softcap only applies to OH white hits which is a negligible portion of our dmg. I think it's safe to say that any expertise above said softcap is useless then.

Yeah, it kinda sucks that racials only apply to the hand said weapon is equipped, but you get used to it after a while. Fortunately the BiS 1h weapons always benefit at least one race in the end, this tier it's gnomes/humans (Souldrinker).
Just download reforgelite and don't worry about moving numbers around :P

How prepared do I need to be for Heroics?

Hey dudes,

Well... I've been playing WoW since vanilla, so I've been around the block and back, but I can honestly say I've never reached endgame content until now.

I've read up on pretty much everything (except specifics of dungeons) and seem to be performing pretty decently in the normals that I've been randoming into despite not having amazing gear, but the thing I can't seem to find any info on is just how prepared I need to be to do Heroics.

i.e. What kind of item level should I be looking at before starting? Do I need to look up every single boss fight for every single heroic that I could possibly do?

I'm just a bit wary of jumping straight in, seeing as the WoW community isn't always the nicest of the bunch. I don't particularly want to !@#$ up and then be yelled out of a group. Yes, I'm aware I should probably just suck it up and see what happens, but I come from a long background of being a squishy healer (if only my leveling partner weren't so slow, I'd have an 85 priest by now...), so I'm not great with conflict. =P

tl;dr - How prepared do I need to be for Heroics? (Who'da thunk it?)

Thanks thanks,
-Thun
honestly end game content is not heroics bud, but, just get in there, and if you dont know a boss, just say so. im a @$$hole but never the person to deny someone honest help if they have the sack to ask.

don't ask, don't learn, be trolled and read up some tickies above, to help you learn the class, as far as gear, take upgrades as them come
I would say get as much of the justice gear as you can. Here is a very quick rundown of the bosses and the link you can find more info.

End Time

Echo of Sylvanas Stay out of purple stuff on the ground. When phase 2 comes, kill the ghoul everyone's DPSing and then run over its corpse and away from Sylvanas.

Echo of Tyrande Interrupt Stardust and blow your cooldowns at 30%. If you're ranged, don't get close to her, and if she turns to face you, move away.

Echo of Jaina Avoid big white blades that pop out of the ground. If you see a fire ember on the ground, stand IN it to keep it from damaging the whole group.

Echo of Baine Throw his totems back at him. If he stomps an island that you're on, swim to a new one quickly.

Murozond Stay out of big golden circles, stay out from in front of him, stay away from behind him, and pop your cooldowns whenever time resets.

Well of Eternity

Peroth'arn Stay out of green stuff on the ground, and don't let the eyes get close to you when you're stealthed.

Queen Azshara Kill the puppet strings on Mind-Controlled players as quickly as possible, and avoid bad stuff on the ground. You HAVE to interrupt Azshara's Total Obedience ability.

Captain Varo'then and Mannoroth Stay out of bad stuff, focus on Mannoroth once Varo'then's dead, and keep adds off your healer and Tyrande.

Hour of Twilight
Arcurion Interrupt Hand of Frost, kill Ice Tombs, and stay out of bad.

Asira Dawnslayer Stay out of Smoke Bomb and on top of the light circles left by Thrall's totems. If you're a caster or healer, try to keep the tank or Thrall standing between yourself and Asira.

Archbishop Benedictus Spread out, dispel Righteous Shear/Twilight Shear, interrupt Smite/Twilight Blast, and stay out of waves.

Here's what I would expect of a DPS in a heroic group I was tanking:

-Know your class. This doesn't just mean having the appropriate spec, stacking the appropriate stats, knowing your rotation, etc., but knowing all the capabilities of the class. For a DK, this would mean being familiar with Mind Freeze, Strangulate, and Raise Ally and when to use them. Bonus points if you use Anti-Magic Shell in a useful way.

-Care about your gear. I can understand if someone's in an unholy mixture of 329 greens and 364 epics if they just hit 85, but I like to see gems in gem slots, and enchants on gear that's going to be staying around for a while.

-Be willing to learn. I definitely would not look at the Dungeon Journal for every fight you come across (since a lot of those abilities aren't applicable to DPS or are just being ignored by groups now anyways), but I would mention that this is the first time you've run the dungeon, and a quick "hey, what do I need to know for this boss?" always helps. Someone will type two lines back to you, and you won't die to a mechanic you didn't know about.

Other than that, be aware of all the different ways you can gain gear. Spend your justice points early and often, and be aware of the legacy justice vendor who's off to the side - he still has quite a few upgrades for you. I hope this helps!

Also, go to Tankspot.com they have all the dung to watch as in clips under the movie section. Very helpful for knowing fights & such. From there I also tend to research at wowhead.com
You can do crap dps but if you are willing to do what's needed, sometimes, that's more important. For example, helping with interrupts, move away from raid when you have bad debuffs, help pull random adds away from healer, running to grab the ember in Jaina encounter, avoiding uncessary damage done to you etc.

Gear will come, and go (when new content releases), but knowledge of the mechanics stays with you, and thankfully WoW is as dumb-ed down as possible and the mechanics are all very easy to pick up as long as you are willing to pay some attention to the screen than just tunnel vision onto recount. And if you have problem comprehend the info on the web just youtube it, there are enough people who like to upload their videos.

Just remember
1. You can't kill when you can't hit
2. You can't kill when you are dead
3. Respect the killing order if marks are given, attacking the mob tank isn't tanking will only kill you
4. Cool downs are useless unless you click on it, a lot of times learn when and where to use your cool downs is the difference between doing 35k in 5men heroics vs doing 20k in 5men heroics.
In the new 5mans interrupting and dodging is much more important than DPS.

Rogue Rerolling to DK or Warrior MOP

So the title pretty much says it all, looking for any insights and helpful thoughts on this topic. Thank you have a good night :)

Surpise
Anybody can pick up a weapon and be a warrior. Death Knights had to be important enough to be brought back to life.

Point dk.
Try them both out. You had your change on the PTR on 85s...just mess around with them if your worried about MoP

Error with defensive cooldowns?

In Firelands, Baleroc, I used Dancing Rune Weapon, coupled with Moonwell Phial so as not to get squished on Decimation Blade. This caused Baleroc to turn around and eat the next two people in line on the threat meter. I figured it was a fluke, until the same thing happened on Murozond. To verify, on my next encounter I attempted to force such a situation and succeeded. Before I start questioning whether this is a bug or something, is there something I am missing about the way these cooldowns work together?
Oh my god.

The boss AI has learned how to play.

Rerolling paladin, I'm gonna need plate to survive this.
I'm not able to reproduce this bug, but if it always occurs under those conditions for you, then it probably is a bug.

Seems weird, though.

Need fellow DK tank advice, thanks in advance

Looking at my charactor armory, is it possible for me to tank in heroics?
How about zandoms?

i've tanked in normal modes before.

Thanks for any suggestions/ advice.
Read LL's sticky for DK tanks at the top of this forum. Ur gear lvl is just fine for all heroics, but could use some optimization. The guide can fill you in, but here's some cliff notes:

-Gem for mastery and/or avoidance; only using stam as green hybrids.

-Reforge away expertise/hit or any dps stats to mastery and/or avoidance. After that, balance ur dodge and parry ratings (not %, ratings) as best you can to minimize DR.

-Replace ur might trinket, and start getting an array of tanking trinkets to swap around. Good ones are: Impetuous Query & Scale of Life from AH, Moonwell Phial from MF dailies, MoBI from TB rep (highly recommended), Fire of the Deep from new VP vedors (also highly recommended), Stay of Exec from FL trash rep, and Throngus' Finger from GB. There's the Veil of Lies from the new heroics too; it's alright but has an uncontrollable proc.

-Enchant ur gear, even if its holdovers; ya dun have to get the expensive stuff for each slot, but some enchant is better than none.
I agree with Cryotube, all the info you need is in the DK forums. Also there is some really good gear availabe in the 3 new dungeons.I have also found that the blood DK is not so squishy now that patch 4.3 is live.Do your home work on your class and you should be just fine'
Thanks for all the advice! :)

i've just upgraded some of my gear and was hoping to tank the twilight heroics.
im just hesitant to click that LFR button... :/
Only way to learn is to try. :)

ps: Enchant your gear. It'll reflect better on you when people inspect you.

Frost DK early level PVP rotation..

Alright title describes it all im gettin a full set of lvl 70 pvp gear when I hit it, I wanted to try pvp out on my dk and decided to go frost.. But whats a good rotation at this level? Like what are my most used spells basic rotations and strats? Any CORRECT answer to any of these questions will help.. Thanks =) Also what kinda stats?
Well it all depends on the class your fighting, but what i usually do is: Howling Blast, Chains of Ice, Blood Tap (to make a death rune for oblit), Obliteratex3, and then frost strike until they're dead!

Another one is, HowlingB x2, Unholy strike x4, Frost strike until Rp is gone, then obliterate to the finish. (this is an arena style kill where i replaced Necrotic strike for Unholy stirke since NC isn't available until 83 :/)
Howling Blast, Frost Strike, and Obliterate are your three main damage dealing attacks.

Unholy Strikes and Chains of Ice are used to apply your diseases for extra obliterate damage.

Happy whackin!

DK resilience cap?

Hi Dks,

I just started playing my Dk again. And I read through all the stickies and what not. But I cant find a post talking about DK resilence and it capping. I know with this next tier (Season 11) gear coming out and even more resil being on the gear some classes (Warriors, also play one :]) will meet thier resilience cap even without geming. Therefore they can have a few PvE pieces. I just want to know if I should still be gemming resil because lack of defensive cooldowns, or I should go like Strength/Mas.

TL;DR Is there a resil cap for DKs? Might be a stupid question, but bare with me, Im still a noob.

Edit: Playing frost if it matters.
Resil does not suffer from diminishing returns. I still find it useful to use PVE weapons however until you can farm up the highest ilvl pvp weaps, but other than that pvp gear it up brah and enjoy the dmg soak.
You posted on a rogue, so I'm gonna assume you've been following rogue pvp through last season and noticed a lot of them stacking to 36-3800 and then using pve gear. The reason, as explained to me by my rogue buddy, is that rogues have enough CDs and escapes that it's worth it to sacrifice the damage reduction in favor of more damage. If the rogue gets in trouble, they can escape and reset usually or at least give their healer a few seconds to come out of CC.

DKs don't have the same level of survivability built into our class mechanics, so there's not really a point (or at least there wasn't with last season's gear) where resilience stopped being competitive with damage stats. However, your goal in pvp and your team makeup/strategy can effect that. If you're running with someone else who is typically focused on more than you and/or your healer feels comfortable with it, trading some resil for damage might be the best idea.

Typically, a DK's role on the team will be to deal as much damage as possible, so a lot of the DK's game is finding the right balance of damage/resil for his team.
50% if the season 11 pvp gears gets us there. The remaining small boost (socket bonus, enchant, gem) of resilience won't be benefiting compared to other stats.

Need tanking help.

So, Ive recently decided to get into tanking, as Im starting to get bored of DPSing constantly. So, I want to know if anyone would mind giving me some help.
I know I need to gear up for tanking before I try anything other than regs, So what should I farm/spend valor or justice on first? (besides my obvious bloodthirsty pyrium gear I havent replaced yet)

So, really, I want to know what gear I should get first, and where to get said items.

Thanks in advance for any help recieved :D
Tank gear... Gear with Parry/Dodge/Mastery. Not too hard on gear to pick.
A) read the sticky
B) get gear with mastery/dodge//parry
c) youtube fights

Some helpful add-ons I've come to like are Omen and Blood shield tracker, Deadly Boss Mods(DBM) most guilds demand this.
You can do normal(346 heroics/zuls) in DPS gear, start there and work on a tank set.

Enchant and gem your !@#$.

Is it me or does frost mages own dks?

Gemming for Blood

Having seen my guild tanks gem, i'm confused about what i'm supposed to be doing

For blue/red sockets, is it even worth matching socket bonuses, seeing that the bonuses are most often stam?

Or should i just gem everything with fractured amberjewels, with the exception of mastery socket bonuses? I don't feel that gaining 10-20 mastery is worth gemming with puissant dream emeralds/defender's demonseye.

Comments would be appreciated :)
You should gem for the socket bonus only if it's +20 of a stat you want. Such as +20 Mastery, Dodge, Parry, Stamina. Sockets like expertise can be okay, but only if the gems are beneficial.

That's my philosophy, some people go for the socket bonus no matter what, but I believe that pure mastery gems are better than mastery stam gems in given socketing situations.

For my tank set, I gem for mastery.

For my dps set, I gem for strength.

The new gems allow you to match the sockets sometimes by using mixed colors, i.e., orange, green, and purple gems that have some of you major stat and some of another stat.
I pretty much went with this:
http://www.noxxic.com/pve/death-knight/blood
pure master gem for yellow
20 parry 20 mastery for red
30 stam 20 mastery for blue
Please trust Crunchy on this. I've done a ton of testing as well, and now only Gem Red with the Parry Mastery (it's an orange gem) and Blue with the mastery/stamina. Made a world of difference.
As a tank, you rarely have a socket bonus of a stat you /don't/ want and while Mastery is our strongest stat, giving up free secondary stats (especially stamina, which is still very useful) is not a great idea for tanks.

DPS can get away with it because strength is usually more than 1.5-2x better than any possible secondary stat, while for us.
Fractured for yellow (pure mastery)
Fine for red (parry/mastery)
Puissant for blue (stamina/mastery)

If you don't think the socket bonus is worth it, then use a Fractured.

a little help on frost dw

so i have been aiming for what this guy/girl says..

http://www.noxxic.com/pve/death-knight/frost/stat-priority-and-reforging-strats

If thats a bad source point me in the right direction... My main question thought is what is it i am supposed to do with rune enchants. on my weapons. I have seen to many different "websites" and armouried a few of the goodo DK's on Alleria and i get diff results.

Also i know my reforging is messed up alot right now, a few too many upgrades for the bank balance to keep up with..
Okay, well first off, the rune enchants you should use are, Razorice for MH, and Fallen Crusader for the OH. That website also doesn't give you too much information on your class, here's a link to a more in depth thread on frost dk's.

http://elitistjerks.com/f72/t125291-frost_dps_winter_discontent_4_3_a/

If you have any more questions feel free to ask, been playing a dk for 2 and 1/2 years now.
Busty is correct on the DW Runeweapons.

That link shall guide you the rest of the way.

Blood PVP

You know. The little armor nerf is barely bothering me. Blood got a lot more deadly in pvp today after that Rune Stirke change went in. For those that do not know, Rune Strike no longer requires parry or dodge if you are in Blood Pres.

Juggle around a few standard rotations. Build up 120-130 runic power. Then just pour on the Death Strikes and Rune Strikes. Some people just melt.
For real. I feel a little bit easier to kill though. Last week, I was a flag carrying god. Now, I've descended back down to the realm of mere mortals. I'm happy either way, but if we stay like this, I can see Blood getting some arena representation, after all.

question for theorycrafting nerds

Hello,
First of all, does army of the dead benefit from a players stats at the time of being summoned like ghoul and garg do?

If they do, is it worth losing 5 seconds of Pillar, Prepot to give them the extra benefit?

TL:DR Version : Is it worth Prepotting and using Pillar before summoning AOTD prepull?

Sorry if this has been answered 7000 times or if this is just silly.
Only use it before a raid boss pull. Or on alysrazor when you have the tornado cast and move buff. Otherwise its a DPS loss.

Its a pretty useless talent.
Thanks for the response, I know that part though. Was curious if the benefit they receives from Pillar of Frost and Golemblood potion would outweigh the 5 seconds of having them while fighting rather than summoning.
Negative. They do not share your stats like your summoned ghoul.
Thanks Kru :-p

Edit

I just looked more at elitist jerks, and they claim they do. So the question still stands :-p
From EJ

Army of the Dead
Army of the Dead will summon a gaggle of ghouls to fight for you swarming any enemies that stand in your way. Like Raise Dead, Army of the Dead will scale with your AP, haste, and hit at the time summoned. The best time to use Army of the Dead will vary from boss to boss, but it is typically right before the beginning of an encounter or in any phase transition where you will not be and cannot be on the boss and no DPS will be lost. One note about Army of the Dead is that although the summoned ghouls will not taunt a boss, they will taunt most adds present on boss encounters. Use at your own risk.

Same thing I said minus the scaling. Use it before a boss or in a transition. Otherwise, no.
Personally I like to use it on fights where itll be able to push the boss to the next phase without encountering any tank trouble. Of course pre pull summon though.

Such as the Archbishop fight in Hour of Twilight. Before fight starts, drop a DnD, Army, and then pew pew pew.

Really depends on phase based fights or non-aggro based fight such as the End of time dungeon (I think) w/ Illidan.

I usually prebuff before AotD, but if they dont snapshot then I guess thats some new insights for me that I may I have missed in posts/topics.
AotD benefits from AP.
And I can confirm that they also do benefit from crit and hit now in patch 4.3.
But you should not pop pillar, potion, use trinket before summoning them.
Pop Aotd 6-8 sec b4 pull, horn and potion 1 sec before pull.
pop 1st Ghoul with FC +trinket proc and pillar.
I occasionally Army during a fight when I know that I'm going to need DPS soon more than I need DPS now, e.g. when we lost a healer on Madness platform 4 and killing the Bolt quickly became more essential.

Mostly, though, I save it for prefight or transition (e.g. start of P2 on Madness).

But you should not pop pillar, potion, use trinket before summoning them.

Thank you for answering the main question I was looking to answer.

Has anyone done actual tests to see the dps increase of AOTD per point of str or anything similar, assuming they are up for close to full duration?

Unholy, 2h Frost and Gurthalak

Picked up Gurthalak, Voice of the Deeps last night and I am seeing some very interesting results with it.

On 2 of long target dummy tests that I did with it (20m damage each). I saw unholy at 23kish sustained (still getting used to unholy) and 2h Frost at 24kish sustained. The tentacles from Gurth made up roughly 7-8% of the total damage done but seemed to proc more often with 2h Frost (probably because of the higher innate attack speed and extra melee attacks).

Can't wait to see how this plays out it raids. Although the burst is much lower compared to DW frost unless a tentacle or two pops up. So for short fights Gurthalak may have to banked.

Anyway it almost seems like 2h Frost may be unexpectedly competitive this tier because of Gurthalak.
what spells to the tentacles cast? and also im curious about it more for pvp /drool. I really think stats help out unholy more but i may be wrong
It only casts mind flay but the mind flay does do the same 50% slow as the priest one.
then i could imagine maybe some PvP unholy DKs using it for kiting maybe in bgs. do you think maybe the dps difference could be your skill with UH? i know some people who are trying to start unholy this patch have had a hard time just curious
Ya I am definitely not playing unholy optimally yet. So I would expect to see higher numbers as I get better with its rotation but unholy also gains more buffs from being in a raid than frost does. So with no buffs on a target dummy it makes sense for unholy to be lower.

Another rate me thread...

Hey all. I just started getting serious about gearing my DK with the new 5 mans and I'll soon be using the new LFR system, I was just looking for some pointers on my gear, and what the best gems for me would be (I just grabbed whatever looked useful from the AH gem-wise). I'll prolly get ripped apart by the people here...so I'll just duck and cover over here.

Have at! :)

Edit: vague post lulz
Run your character through askmrrobot.com to achieve your hit and expertise caps correctly. That will tell you your correct gemming, enchanting, and reforging. Because that is the only thing that is really wrong with you right now. You're over the hit cap, but under expertise.
Yep, you gotta remember in DW you get an auto 3% to hit. So basicallly you want 8% hit, 26/26 expertise. You also should never have to gem for hit/expertise.

Rate my gear tanking wise

Check me out I wanna know how im doing. I just started playing again for the first time in two years so im new to a lot of stuff.
Dont mind any dps gear as i am working on getting it replaced.
if you have gear with parry/mastery reforge the parry into dodge. if you have gear with dodge mastery keep it that way. if you have gear with parry/dodge reforge the bigger stat into mastery. your weapon is exp/mastery reforge exp with dodge. then youll be fine!
The stuff that is truly tank gear is looking decent enough. But you are still wearing too much DPS gear, and that needs to be fixed with either more heroic gear or JP gear.

What comp to run 4.3

I'm still trying to decide what comp to run for 4.3 for my deathknight. I wanted to try shadowplay (warlock, dk, shaman) but I'm not sure due to the fact there are VERY few good warlocks out there that know how to get dots up AND peel off teammates AND use fear to force a big CD other than trinket from an enemy player. With the new healing debuff (25% less healing) I was thinking TSG (which truly only made it harder for disc priests to heal).

What comp do you think would be good? I was thinking PHD but I already know so many people are going to try that after blizzcoon this year lol.

When you post a team name like SHATTERPLAY OR "EBOLA (the hell is ebola)" make sure you tell everyone the classes in the comp. Not everyone knows what it is. Thanks.
I personally think it's easier to find a good warlock than to find a hunter for PHD (hpal hunt dk).
Although, I would suggest playing PHD.

Finding a warrior to play with (and since you already play one, you'll know compatibility) would probably be the easiest way (and it ain't terrible) to go TSG warr hpal dk.

If both PHD and TSG you might want to try unholy for peels/necrotic strike spam and let your hunter/warr lead damage, hpal will be the best healer because of BoF.

For shadowcleave lock dk healer, frost may be your best opinion as your warlock will control and you'll lead damage. If you explain those 3 things to a lock, I'm sure they can understand.

Ebola is feral druid dk healer btw.
Why must you PvPers have fancy names that make things even hard for non-PvPers to understand :<
Is PHD's ideal strat to get necrotics stacked then cc healer and have hunter burst?

(A)LF UH for 3v3 Season 11. TSG

I <3 TSG.
I have a few seasons worth of experience with it. I am looking for a UH DK who can CC chain with me and my Hpally, who can call out there grips, pet stuns etc. and has 2.2k+ Exp in arena. I would like the DK to have T2 weapon from season 10 and obtain new Season 11 honor gear Asap when new season starts. TSG is very gear dependent.

Blood Parasite worth it for Blood PVP?

Is it worth taking Blood Parasite for Blood PVP? How much healing/damage do you see from them in normal random battleground situations?

I'm generally happy with my blood spec, which I used when I was gearing up and now use when we need an FC/Tank or just as a change of pace when I'm bored. With the massive increase in interest in Blood PVP in 4.3 I've been looking through peoples' specs and noticed most people pick up the talent. I thought they would be worthless in PVP, but what little info I've been able to google up is leading me to believe they're actually a decent amount of healing.

If I wanted to take the talent in my current spec, where would I get the points? I saw one fellow who dropped to 1/3 Scent of Blood and 2/3 Will of the Necropolis, which is what I'm considering now. I'm worried about the RP loss from Scent of Blood, but losing 9% of temporary damage reduction from WotN doesn't sound too bad given that it usually only kicks in when I've got half their team on me and I'm about to die anyway.
Have you been to EJ or AJ? I would recommend my specs to you, but I am blood only to farm honor and I pay little attention to the spec beyond that.
Just gave it up in my last pvp-blood respec

It does decent healing, but never when you want it. And since it's triggered by melee attacks - not guaranteed every fight

I used one of the points for it in Vampiric Blood - makes my DS's heal bigger whenever I want or a temp boost of healing when in trouble. Those silly worms never helped in an emergency!
I usually get Parasite. The extra healing is nice time to time but its no priority. More than often I would also get Scarlet Fever too as well. Depending on your role Unholy Command is usually "iffy," I dont usually spec into it.

DK gear

I've got a question about DK starter gear.

The gear DK's get while doing the starter quests, I know is very good for the level. How much mileage can I expect from it?
I've heard that it can be stretched to lvl 70 but that seems like a big gap to me.
The reason I ask is I've moved to a new server and I don't have the resources I had on my home server. So at the moment I'm trying to save what gold I do have for glyphs and flying training.
If I can make the starter gear last for a little while, I can spend my gold on things that will help me make more gold in the long run that I can spend on gear

Thanks for your input :)
Yeah the gear seems fine. But run some randoms and you will find some better pads and chest maybe.
i still have a few pieces on my alt lvl 70 dk, the two trinkets as they are still good for tanking and i think thats it but do hellfire ramps, blood furnace, underbog to name a few and they drop some very nice plate pieces with lots of gem sockets which with the sockets make them better than the starter gear. it also depends what you plan to do, my alt dk tanks so i wanted to get rid of the starter gear just for some more tank pieces but you could probably make them stretch for a little longer as dps with some quest greens and dungeon pieces coming out on top after a little while.
Mmm I think I started replacing some of mine in zangarmarsh. I wouldn't recommend questing all the way to 70 in them, especially if you're hitting northrend at 68 like you should be.

Great job necroing a 9 month old thread.

Suggestion on major DK glyph change

The DRW(Dancing Rune Weapon) glyph should be changed from the threat generation that it gives to costing no runic power. My reason for this is threat is a joke now adays and if you cannot hold threat then you either need more practice or should think about dpsing as a DK. The only time someone every really comes close to pulling off of me is when I'm establishing intial threat. Now on a pull that takes a count down i.e. boss pulling your runic power is going to be at 0..... On top of that you should be using the runic power you first generate for rune strikes not only to proc runic empowerment but also to add some breathing room between you and your dps on whatever threat meter you are using.
If this glyph change is considered I would also consider changing the bone sheild glyph off from the 15% movement speed to costing no runes so DK tanks can keep that unholy rune for a deathstrike. I mean honestly do you need the extra 15% to move out of fire.... Granted it may change pvp but I have not blood pvped so I wouldn't know.
I think this is every ones dream.
I mean like I said before if you need the threat boost you shouldn't be tanking to be honest. So make the glyph usefull now?

3v3 blud

last season me and some friends were talkin about playin triple blood dk in arena, now with all these changes to blood what are your thoughts on that comp? if played good do you actually think any other comp could kill one of us? we would probably all have the party wide rune tap glyph +blood worms healing all of us,i mean even if we fought RMP and trained the mage all day long i dont think we could ever die? mage blinks deathgrip, mage gets distance deathgrip again,3 strangulates....

what could beat this comp and how would they beat the comp cause i dont see it losing at all if 3x good players were running it.
strangulate drs.
more than likely 2/3 of you will be cced for most of the match
you have to hope your in range of the bloodworms when they explode.
any team with a good healer and frost or unholy dks to necrotic you one by one... I know I wreck double blood teams triple wont be very good either unless you guys are exceptional... people will learn to remove blood shields and to kite and stun and disarm if a lot of people do try arenas with blood..
nah triple blood would have 0 burst even with the vengence buff to get a kill, no cc, and any decent dk as said above would be able to overstack your healing with necrotic easily, not to mention the actual dps output of another dps and cc

Auras

Does anyone wish DKs presences gave group/raid auras like they first did?
No, it's just another mechanic to have to worry about when balancing things for Blizzard and they have a hard enough time as it is.
Meh.
/shrug
Unholy presence used to effect the raid and they took it out..... So I do not think it will be coming back, sorry.
Too OP, but I would love to get mark of blood back >.<

Is frost dk get nerfed in 4.3?

In patch 4.2, I can kill a caster really fast. But now, it is very hard to kill a spriest or warlock.

In patch 4.2, my frost strike main hand normally make 6000-7000 non-critical and offhand is 4000 - 5000. Now, my frost strike main hand only makes around 4000 - 5000 and offhand is 2000 - 4000.

I did not change any of my gears and I tried on dummy also.

With the same gear, I also tried blood spec. Blood spec gets a nice buff. Sometimes, it can make 50k or even 70k+ dmg one shot.
I noticed no change at all, really.
^ ... I have increased dps actually. They increased melee dps by 10% or something
I went back to 2-hander and I have no problems at all. I especially tear Warlocks a new one.
Deleted by Darkrachet
It's not so much that it go nerfed, I think everything else just got buffed over Frost.
Deleted by Darkrachet
lol, frost dks are one of the lowest single target dps'rs if anything they need a buff(pve that is, simcraft 4.3)http://simulationcraft.org/430/Raid_T13H.html

what your probably noticing is most people didnt have a full 384 pvp set but as of last tuesday they only cost honor so people were farming bgs to get honor to get full sets. so your probably on average playing these better resiliance full 384set people.
HB got a small nerf... but other than that.. i think with the free 384 pvp gear people just have more resil than they did a month ago.. so you dont hit them as hard... unholy got a buff try it
I read at the xillerated website that 1h duel frost spec dk do abit more dps than a 2h unholy dk depending on how many targets. The duel wield is a bit better than 2h. But, it's up to the players how they wanna play.

Dk's level 60 gear?

Do DKs have level 60 pvp armor? Or do i actually have to start accepting the armor i get from the dungeons? When do they get a pvp set and how can i obtain it?
At level 60 you can use the grand marshal set, at least that's what I know I've done on this guy and my paladin recently. As far as pve gear, your blue set should last you until northrend for the most part.
nah you sure?
No 60 gear. Not sure why they didn't give us the 60 warrior set like they do at 70. It's just missing off that vendor. Unless I'm missing something on both Horde and Ally vendors.
Okay so what should i use for now in pvp?
wear the powerful blues you have is a good idea, as resil at that point for you is not a big deal.

pvping with 1hand / 2handers frost

So while i was lvling this guy 2hand was the way to go for pvp. Then when i got this guy to 85 i was doing random bgs and saw alot of frost dks using DW. And I saw alot of the really good dks on my server that was 2hander go too DW.

So I wanted to ask the dks on the forums is there something about DW that is better then 2handers? The only thing I know thats the diffrence is that 2handers have more boorst then DW.

i find it benificial for dw in both pve and pvp. i mean yes your most likely not gona get the HUGE crit from a 2h but with dw it evens out better. from my expierence ive taken down people from grinding their health down quick from the increase from the unholy crusader on one weapon and razor ice on the other. its personal preference but i say dw is the way to go
if ur glyphed, geared, and talented right.
Well let's see.

With 2h, your getting more RP space from your tier one talent, a % damage and chance to generate RP from motfw, and a bigger punch at once when your using 2h.

With dual wield your getting more KM procs, and thats IF you can stay on your target.

Seeing how consistently you can be off your target because of kiting or the like, I find the burst of a 2h to be far superior, though not so much so that it makes dw bad, some people may just prefer the second DK weapon enchant and the looks
I'd go DW over 2H, if only for all of the extra KM procs. Then there's the proc's from your runewords and any trinkets you may have equipped. The extra Rune Power you get from Might of the Frozen Wastes isn't much of a buff, it's easy to generate plenty of RP while DW, just from applying diseases, chains, etc. Then there's the sheer speed of your attacks, and (correct me if I'm wrong, but) the shorter cool downs for abilities and rune regeneration. With both diseases up and KM proc'd, I've seen Oblits hit players for 40k (they average 20-25k). You can get off a 2 Oblits and a Frost Strike dump in the amount of time it would take to land 1-2 2H hits, and those 2H hits might barely hit harder, if just as hard, considering you want be proc'ing KM nearly as much. Some people say, "Well, you'll just run out of runes and RP faster and then be stuck," but as long as you manage your resources and time your abilities properly, you'll always have attacks ready to go. As far as kiting goes, I use Chilblains and keep throwing Chains on my targets in between groups of attacks, and I save Death Grip for mid-fight if they get too far away. I'm sure personal preference plays a role, but I've always found DW to put more pressure on targets and ultimately do way more dmg. The slow swings of a 2H weapon give the enemy time to kite, stun you, or chop you up, while the constant onslaught of (properly managed) DW doesn't give them much time for anything at all. I'm not claiming to be a PvP expert (I hit 85 w/ this toon around when Season 10 ended, and my only arena experience is on my first main, a pally), I've only done PuG BG's with my DK, I just know what seems to work well for me and what the post-game stats say. If you have any questions/want help/advice/etc., feel free to ask me though.
As Frost in PvP, I've put out WAY more damage as Dual Wield than any 2 Hander I've come across. DW weapons cost more Honor Points as a pair, and I notice that people generally prefer to go 2h because of it.
Each have their own benefits, neither one could be considered completely dominant over the other... many people these days are starting to like frost due to its huge burst potential.

I'll set it up nicely

2H

-More RP due to the chance to gain it on auto attacks, this makes it most beneficial for 2handers to use their death runes on Necrotic because they will have nicer natural flow of RP
-Harder hitting necrotic strikes due to no talent for off-hand, only a small difference but still a difference
-Able to use obliterate on cloth/leather users only below 35% as a big burst potential if a few necrotics are still up, all other times a HB+Necrotic is a better use of runes
-harder hitting melee abilities due to 10% increase from talents
-slightly bigger necrotic absorbs due to 2handers having more total strength than a DW pair

DW

-Less RP due to no gain on auto-attacks(unless you go the 8/31/2 build which i'm not as fond of but i've seen it work so i cant bash it), so it is more beneficial for dual wielders to use death runes on HB so you still have RP for those Frost strike KMs
-More KM procs which can lead to insane burst, Dual wielders actually get higher Frost Strike crits than 2handers, getting an addon that adds the two together makes this easy to see. I've dumped a full bar of RP getting a KM proc for each FS... the damage is insane.
-Harder hitting frost abilities by 10% due to having an extra Rune of razorice in the offhand, or possible alternative of swordbreaker for less disarm time
-More mastery due to being able to reforge 3% less hit into that beautiful frost damage
-Harder hitting Howling blasts helps out with plate classes and ferals who absorb heavy melee damage.

I probably missed a few things because i just woke up but thats the most of it.

With more KM procs and better howling blast damage due to razorice + more mastery leads to higher burst potential to a larger variety opponents. This IMO is why a good amount of people are choosing DW these days.
Thanks for the help guys. This info has helped alot. :)

Dark Simulacrum

Anyone else disappointed that DS didn't work on as many skills as we hoped it should be?
What's Dark Simulacrum?

Seriously though - I think I've used it on Bloodletting and Zanzil fire in ZG, and sometimes Hand of Rag if splitting blow is going to happen straight after so I can use it on the adds.

Can be fun in pvp though, getting blink or iceblock is always handy. I swear this one mage had an addon that screamed at him every time he got simmed so that he'd hit slowfall to consume it when I was trying to get polymorph.

Tank macro help Runestrike and Outbreak

been trying different macros and none are working for me. What I want it to do is cast outbreak then whenever I press the same macro it will exclusively rune strike until outbreak is again able to be used. Thanks in advance and ill check them out once the servers are back up.
There aren't macros available for use that check for ability cooldowns, which they would call an "intelligent macro". That would be too much of an automation.

What you can do to save space is a basic shift macro.

/cast Rune Strike
/cast [modifier:shift] Outbreak

Casts Rune Strike always, unless you type shift.

If you want it to show the outbreak cooldown then use

#showtooltip Outbreak
/cast Rune Strike
/cast [modifier:shift] Outbreak

-servers back online gtg gl

---actually Outbreak does not cause a GCD, you should be able to just

/cast Outbreak
/cast Runestrike

That should cast them both simultaneously first time out and as long as you're hitting it anytime after the Outbreak cd is up it should work.
thank you good sir. i miss the old macros i used to make in BC. sadly shadowmoon isnt up yet :(
Just tried the macro, Outbreak does cause a GCD, so it wont work.
There is a script that skips a step when on cd I will see if I can find it. all would have to do is tack it onto outbreak.

Sorry the macro command has been discontinued because they don't wan't one button macros. Seems the alt macro is your best bet.
i just make mine like this...
/castsequence reset=30 outbreak
/cast pestilence

if outbreak is on cd it just goes to pestilence.

i just make mine like this...
/castsequence reset=30 outbreak
/cast pestilence

if outbreak is on cd it just goes to pestilence.

I don't think this macro actually works. I tried to recreate it but it didn't work for me. Basically it always tries to cast Outbreak which triggers the GCD, thus preventing pestilence from ever working. This kind of macro seems too good for Blizzard to allow it to function.

Respeccing question

Unholy PVP: Are Ebon Plauge worth going 2/2 and is ROR worth having at all? Every site I look up seems to say just spam Necro Strike. Also, Armored Blade, and Butchery for teh rune regain plus Contagion yay or nay?

Death Grip

Oh man please someone tell me the animation is just bugged, it looks ridiculously stupid right now.

Glad to See We Are Going Back to Season 8

I took 151k damage in literally 3 GCD's from a 50k Rogue ambush+Backstab and 75k Shatter Combo and some other hits. This type of damage is reminiscent of the pure unhealable burst of season 8. GG Blizzard...

DK Advice.

Hey all, take a gander at my DK and give me some advice if you could please.

I want to ensure my DPS is getting the help it needs from my gear etc.

I usually use Ask Mr Robot but lately it wants me to reforge all kinds of stuff into Hit and over cap it...

Also would it be worth it to race change to Orc so i get the free 3 expertise so i can reforge some of that extra exp to something else?

Thanks for any help you guys are able to provide.
Not too bad, though that sword is ugly, just sayin.

I recommend askmrrobot.com it's very useful for optimization.
Also would it be a good idea to drop mining and go Engineering or JC?
Sword is very ugly and i feel like im carrying around a !@#$%... lol

I like mr robot i just dont like when it is telling me to go way over cap
looks like a falmer sword from skyrim

Question about a weapon choice

I was wondering if you guys coulp help me... I was wondering if I should respec to 2h frost as I just got a nice 2h from raid finder:

Gurthalak, Voice of the Deeps

And I have both of these as my one handed weapons

Treachery's Bite and Zulian Slasher

Should I respec or just hold out till I find another one hander?
personally im a duel wield frost fan (admittedly its an easier choice for me given the main hand is already good)
2h frost with Gurthalak would probably outdps DW frost with what you have, but Unholy would be an even better option.

Should i try Masterfrost?

So i heared that No'Kaled can be an alternative weapon for a frost dk because of the frost damage and our mastery. I managed to pick 2 up in Raid finder and was wondering if it would be an upgrade to use Masterfrost and No'Kaled vs A bunch of haste and my 2 cleavers. I tested No'Kaled on a test dummy using just my regular spec and reforges which put me under hit cap because of the lost hit and found that i could pull around 1-2k more dps. I'm just wondering if that number would increase if i were to use Masterfrost.

Edit: And the armory seems to have no updated yet so im stuck showing my old gear..
2nd edit: It has updated.
Use simulationcraft and sim it out. The priority lists for each can be found in http://www.simulationcraft.org/430/Death_Knight_T13H_stylecomparison.html

I use the 403 No'Kaled with a haste/obliterate build because it happened to be an upgrade even without stacking mastery.

conquest set

Is it me or does this not look anything like the preview.
the weapons are sick. i dig the helm too.
It's the same as was shown in the preview, and I will disagree with you and say it's ugly, and you can have fun wearing it ;/ . I will gladly be keeping my Ruthless.
The 2200 version of the dk set is god awful hideous. The normal sword looks like the Orange Creamsicle sword of Barbaric doom. Coincidentally the 2200 version of the sword matches the 2200 armor color wise. The axe kind of matches the normal dk armor. The season 10 sword kind of matches the season 11 armor they both look cybernetic I might transmog season 10 sword. Can't be forked to go find some other older sword.
It looks okay...

But I'll stick to my transmog set

Death Knight Weapon

So... Has anyone done any work with the sword from Deathwing? Is it a simple dps boost or does it offer a tank oriented proc when used by blood?
For a DK, it's Frost only, but 1h-using tanks are going to want it.

http://simulationcraft.org/430/DK_DW_Weapon_Comparison.html
I should have really specified, I meant the 2h sword wit hteh tentacle proc: is the proc defensive for blood? Or is the sword only viable for 2h dps toons?
The tentacle it summons only casts Mind Flay. 'Experimental Specimen Slicer' is the tank weapon.
only works on japanese school girls

Well worth the wait.

DK STARTER GEAR IS BACK! :DDD <33333
And the brown one is still amazing
What have I missed?

Obliterate Crits

I feel like my obliterate Crits aren't doing enough damage. With the obliterate glyph, unholy presence, and no buffs, I usually get Crits that do 35k to 50k damage. I just want to know if this is normal or below average for someone with my gear.

EDIT: Oh, and both diseases are up.
Sounds reasonable to me.

Also, swap your runes. Razorice MH, FC OH.
Just checked my recount for my last LFR for Yorsahj, since Hagara's overload would screw with it.

98 obliterate - 48 crits, avg. 27096, max 35300
98 obliterate offhand - 46 crits, avg. 17025, max 22881

I attribute it to the change from frost to unholy presence - The DPS is higher, but the damage per hit is down 15%.
well with my gear i average about 40k obliterates and around 32-35k frost strikes and that is self buffed, so you're fine

what defines a tanking weapon?

so, my DK is only level 56, but if I ever complete the starting zone (for the 100th time), my plan was to try tanking my way from 58-85.

in terms of armor, it seems easy enough, but I was a little curious -- how do DK's chose their tanking weapon? just whatever 2H sword/axe/mace has the most dps?
Before 80, [edit: the one with the highest end-damage (max damage).] After 80, the one with mastery.

edit: Woops, forgot that swing-speeds aren't standardized sub-85.
Euliat is right. Higher DPS sub-80. If you get one that has dodge/parry one it, awesome, don't stress yourself over it. After you learn your mastery, any 2h will work, but you would prefer one with mastery over one without.

I'd like some pointers

For PVP. With the 33% Reduction on XP needed for lvls 71 through 80 I'm leveling faster than anything, and so I'd like some pointers for PVP before I hit 85.

So what is the difference between frost and unholy?
How does blood do in PVP?
As frost, should I be daul wielding, or should I be using a 2H Wep?
I'd also like to know if someone could recommend some good talent trees/guides.

Thanks in advance.
Frost = Burst spec, 2H, gets chewed on by overzealous melees but can be very deadly when used correctly

Unholy = Pressure spec, high ramp up times, can kite a bit and mitigate melee damage bit better than Frost, total caster killer, difficult to master due to micro managing pets and having more macros than Frost and Blood

Blood = Cheese spec, only useful if you have a bunch of morons nearby to feed you vengeance and Death Strikes, and you'll live forever as long as you don't get kited by smart players. Useful in Random BGs because there are plenty of morons there.

2H Frost = Burst, best for Random BGs and most arena setups as well as Rateds
DW Frost = Sustained Damage, usually better for PvE

For a Frost tree, you can use mine. Ignore my Blood tree because I was asked to tank something minor and made one for the lulz. Don't bother saying I use it in PvP because it clearly isn't built for that.

Conclusion:

Frost if you want Killing Blows and Burst

Unholy if you don't mind a pet and want to be more of a support spec to shut down casters/healers

Blood for the lulz

New Valor vendor items priority for tanks.

Looking to me like the offset helm, reforged for mastery... and the trinket?

Any other suggestions?
Belt. For DK's it's second BiS as far as I can tell until heroic modes.
Went for the trinket first but several of my items are i391's, which makes a lot of the items only small upgrades.
I also took the trinket first. But I will take the belt after I take the relic.
I just bought the trinket so I can finally replace my Porcelain Crab and Mirror of Broken Images. Veil of Lies may not be the best trinket available, but I can at least now look at trying to get the one from LFR to replace it, Soulshifter Vortex.
These suggestions are pretty much on the money, none of the other off-set pieces are particularly good for us it looks almost like Blizzard scaled back the mastery on all of the tank shared loot this tier since Paladins and Warriors are overcapping their block now (especially paladins, who gain no further benefit). Which is why it's extra nice that 4/5 of our Tier has natural Mastery.

Though there are nice raid drop accessories that still have a good chunk of Mastery.
Trinket and Belt are definite must gets and priority.

The Other Tank Gear is crap, the Well of Eternity or Baleroc helm is better then the vp helm for DK tanks. I haven't had any luck with WoE or Baleroc obviously, still sporting engineering helm...And I have killed both of them almost 30 times combined.

Anyway, I got the trinket first, im sitting pretty at 29.74 Mastery (When I use both mastery trinkets), and once I get the helm from WoE and the belt ill be around 31 points of mastery. Yes I am a grade A mastery stacker. Go me!

DW Frost or 2H Unholy [PvE]

Which is better in Dragon Soul? I tried googling and all of the results were pre-patch release.
Deleted by Kablanka
Do what you like, both of those spec are so close in dps it doesn't matter.
So far, based on fight mechanics, I would see Frost pulling ahead on:

Yor'sahj
Hagara
Warmaster
Spine
Madness

UH should win or be very close on:
Morchok
Zon'ozz
Ultraxion

Simply because the fights that favor constant target swap (Yor'sahj, Warmaster, Spine, Madness) don't really favour UH as much as Frost (easier ramp up, more on demand burst, also better AoE for Spine and Yor'sahj if necessary)

Again, that's just based on the mechanics overview of normal modes so far.
DW Frost and Unholy are about on par with Normal gear. Now there's testing going on weather or not Masterfrost (Mastery>Haste) is pulling ahead. To earlier to tell until people get more BiS gear.

For 2s I was thinking....

I was wanting to do serious 2s with a healer (holy pally) on my dk. But I can't think which spec to be. Frost or Unholy? I'm good at both of course, but which should I pick?
Serious 2's? lol...

The answer is Frost. The games will take so long as Unholy you'll want to rip your eyes out.

I strongly disaggree...

It doesnt matter if you have a holi pali or not...2s as Frost will be feast or famine. Heavy melee comps will focus you hard, not giving a crap that you have a healer. As frost in 2s, if you survive the 1st 12secs you win. If you dont, then you lose.

UH has more utility and better defense mechanisms for 2s.

But also requires a bit more skill and patience, which people who play 2s generally lack.

Also as UH, you're either going to have to be very good with the Necro stracks or be able to chain CC the other healer very well, otherwise the lack of burst from UH will result in fruitless matches.
i play as frost in 2s and 3s.

How to properly gear for raids.

Hello I have a question on how should I properly gear for raids? to be more specific DR, HoT, etc. And what should I be? blood, frost, or unholy? Should I just get AH gear or PvP or PvE? I am completely lost and raids are nothing like dungeons in any way, shape, form, or fashion and are not as easy and people take raids very seriously. All it takes is a "back" item to have a low level cloak and you get kicked so that why I am asking all these questions just to be safe. TY.

Assistance stance is still bugged

There are times when I need him on my target right now, but he is off somewhere on some random target a million miles away. Spam follow but I dont have time to wait for him to slowly make his way to me. I need him on my target right now. I might need his stun(which is also still broken) for an interupt or even just his damage on my current target. This spec is still broken by minor issues that could easily be fixed. If I didn't hate Frost's smash or be smashed in seconds playstyle I wouldn't put up with this stuff. I do like Unholy but come on, just little things you could do that wouldn't be that hard to make the players who choose the spec more enjoyable.

Should i go blood?

I love frost, but 100% of my defensive cds are based on me having runic power. So phisical damage classes are able to smash me to pieces before i can get enuf runic power to even use my weakest defensive cd. I actually have to have perfect setup to even properly use my litch born heal.

But it seems like i could just faceroll as blood and not experience death in under 5 seconds against ferals, rogues, hunters, and warriors.

I seem to have little to no problem against caster classes.
Go unholy.

frost dk/resto druid comp

frost dk / resto druid went up against resto shaman/feral druid. How long do you think this would take? Assuming both teams know what they're doing.

BG Tank

Hi I am wanting to be a RBG tank and I don't know what my gear should look like or stats I should go for.
Enchant and what gems do I need?

How is sudden doom normalized/other sd qs?

I cannot get proculus to work as of 4.3 and want to know how this mechanic works.

A-Is it normalized solely to weapon speed to generate a pph based on a desired ppm,
this means-3.6 weapon speed=16.7 attacks per mintute(non modified by haste) and will always normalize to x procs per minute lets arbitrarily say 5 ppm so pph=.29, and therefore can with my actual aspd of 2.93 get 5.93 ppm?
B-Is it instead normalized to your actually aspd?
C-Is there a internal cooldown?
D-What is the ppm or pph per rank/ is it a static amount per rank or does it not increase in the same increment per rank?

Thank you for responses but please do not respond if not actually answering this question. Please no " Rage is better just put points in that" sorta response.

DW Frost. Sim numbers not matching in game

So I ran some sim tests against my own dps numbers and i'm usually 3-9k behind what the sim is showing. My priority is on target according to EJ, where I try to keep all my runes on CD, not RP cap myself and weave in Frost Strikes when I can. But there are times where it seems the cards are against me and 3-4 FS hits won't return a single rune through Runic Empowerment.

http://worldoflogs.com/reports/rt-vn668h4eytnamprv/sum/damageDone/?s=13052&e=13294

I did Domo last night on normal mode just to get our lock his Legendary. I pulled 17K DPS on the fight. Yep 17K DPS now look at my gear.

I got no procs of any kind until he changed into cat form for the first time and this was when we changed him at 12 stacks. I will also say that we used lust at the start as well!

The RNG on Frost can be really bad at times.

I pulled 25K too on Ultrixon and had a bad run of no procs for a while then next pull after we wiped I was pulling 33K and had a good run of procs.
Ok, I was thinking it was a horrible run of bad procs as sometimes ill empty 2 runic power bars and maybe get a single run back, which screws me over and has me auto attacking at times waiting on runes to come around.
I was noticing heaps of dry spells last night. My haste has come down a fair bit with upgrades, but there were even a few times where I had to manually refresh frost fever due to lack of rime procs.

better trinket for dw

EJ's has license to slay ahead of rosary of light my ? slay is 38 stack by 10 380 4 15 sec but rosary provides a constant 383 str despite crit proc (useless) i would think a constant 383 str would be better what am i not seeing?
the 380 str is constant once it hits 10 stacks. It shouldn't really fall off unless you stop attacking and sit there.
The hit can be reforged to haste, which, I assume, comes out to be better than the average crit you gain from the crit proc (crit is awful for us).
It also assumes you use all of the hit for reaching yellow hit cap.

Obliterate:New Life

So i figured it would be cool to make a thread such as Mangle, Power Word, and Sentry Totem threads. Would make a new Obliterate: <insert random name here> when ever one caps. Tell me what you guys think.
k
????
Obliterate's a bit racist.
OP: "lol, let's name our signature thread something only one spec uses..."
Me: "Let's not and pretend we never had this thread."

Just curious but what are your favorite

2h transmorgs for axes?
1h for swords?

2h axe -- I went with BOOOONEEEEE STORRRRRRRRRM not because it's just cool looking ... because it took me 6 months to finally win a roll on this when ICC was finally opened. Damn it. I'm gonna get my money's worth on this.

1h -- I really liked the old bc pvp weapons for swords. (see char page) The ones I use are HUGE... drag in the ground when sheathed.
Draconic Avenger for a 2h ax and for 1h swords, the 1s I have or Chromatically Tempered Sword (if it ever drops for me)
For Axe? I'd probably have to go with Gorehowl or Warsong Howling Axe.

For Swords? The one I'm wearing right now (Seravar or something from Ulduar) and/or the Quickening Blade of the Prince.
http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/2973027200 has a couple dozen of my favorites :)

Need some suggestions on what to buy

I'm indecisive by default. So I'm having difficulty on deciding what Valor Point upgrade to purchase first. I always have trouble debating over stat losses and gain with each upgrade. So I just wanted to see what other DK tanks thought was the best so far. Also I'm terribly sorry but I don't know how to do that thing in forums where the item is colored in purple so you can see it.

Basically my choices are:
Fire of the Deep. The trinket.
Indefatigable Greatcloak. Obviously the cloak.
Guardspike Choker. The necklace.
Stoutheart Talisman. The relic.
And finally Forgesmelter Waistplate. The belt.

They all look awesome but again I just can't honestly figure out which upgrade to get first. What do you guys think? Thank you for reading and even more thanks to anyone who replies.
There aren't any cloaks in DS so cloak is going to last you the longest, go for that imo
Thank you. Didn't notice the lack of cloaks there. Makes sense. ^^
Trinket was too good to pass up as this character basically missed Firelands.
In terms of getting the most for your valor, there are no other options for relics, cloaks, or neck pieces in DS, so the valor gear is your only option for those slots. The belt and trinket are nice as well, but since there are possible drops for those slots it seems better to spend valor on the other three items first.

A rare Thanks to the Devs

So I dont pve anymore with unholy spec, But i still pvp with unholy and i gotta say the new buffs we got really shine. I thought i knew how to play this class and made some really dumb threads about what i thought i knew. So wrong lol, Finally getting how to use unholy and Im gonna be honest its great.

TSG vs Kitty Cleave

Halp. Our strat has been to focus kitty and make him go bear. But I always get zerged down before we have any chance to respond. Any suggestions?
Also vs Hunter, DK, Pally
Ask for dk survivability buffs. Only real option for TSG against double melee including a feral. Buffing blood presence for pve reasons was the only potential surv. buff that was given so I would say presence dance. I often forget to change back to Unholy presence when I do though.
A lot is going to depend on your healer being ready to handle the burst. As the DK, your best bet is to go offensive as quickly as you can and try to break their CC chain on the healer. Obviously, don't let the druid hard cast cyclone, but you can also silence him when you see predator's swiftness proc. Make sure you and your healer stay spread out so the warrior can't AE fear you both. Kite the druid during berserk. Have your warrior disarm the other warrior, fear their paladin, all those good things warriors do :). Throw down the druid and reck-bomb him as soon as you have a full bar of RP to drop as well.

For hunters, I've not had much luck vs them either, but you'll want to stay close to your healer and hit the trap that the hunter will throw on him after he scatter-shots.

Other than those things, your healer just has to be on the ball and keep you up. You've got to take the offensive in the fight. If the other heavy dps team pushes you to be defensive, you'll be fighting an uphill battle to recover.

Blood tier 13 vs 12

Hi Folks.
I currently have 4 p t 13.
When should I break this?
Just got t13 chest tonight.

Thanks,
Siswai
I assume you mean 4p T12.

The 2set for T13 is quite good. I'd make the swap when you can get 2+2.
I broke it once I got the 4p from LFR. If you get 4 piece normal I would go with 2 and 2.

It would be a shame to lose desecration.

Although the new Desecrated Ground ability will be in MoP for DK, desecration was a bit more than that.

I remember picking up desecration while leveling my DK in the first few days of WotLK and having it with me throughout the whole expansion (minus those few weeks I was Frost in Ulduar... oh the power).

It was part of the class to me, or at least the "Unholy" aspect. Wherever I was going, so would desecration. To me, it was class refining, even in the situations where it wasn't doing much of anything.

I don't know if I'll be playing my DK in MoP. Probably I'll go monk, but don't take this ability away from Death Knights. It is innovative, flavorful, and fun. The fact that the new talent system would make it possible for EVERY DK to have this ability in their spec is great, but it could be weaved into the Unholy DK path as well.

I sure that the loss of this ability would be a mistake.
I'm sure they just havent added it to the list. What I like is contagion is unholy baseline. Not that I hardly ever use pestilence but if the diseases were buffed a bit I might use it more.
Let's hope so.

Deciding between 2 Weapons, help please!

thoughts/suggestions?
I want to say No'Kaled, given that the Frost-portion of No'kaled (apparently) scales with our Mastery and it has a higher damage range, however the massive dip in strength/AP (Around 344 loss in AP) might not make up for it.

Have you tried running them in say... a Sim or a rough test run on a test dummy?
no i haven't, just because our dps is so RNG based i don't wanna go off any real testing cause it would take wayyy too long to get variance down to a point where the results could be reliable.
That's what a simulator is for. I can run ten thousand iterations in the time it takes to get up and stretch.

Is this a good random BG class? and in MoPtoo

Hi guys I am looking for a long term main and I have really been enjoying DK. However I am still only level 71 and low level bgs are about meaningless in terms of finding out what a class is like in PvP at max level. I would mostly do PvP on the side in random BGs but that is important to me so would this be a good choice for those? Also what about long term in MoP? That is important to me. Thank you! Any info you can give would be great.

Also in general info on if DK would be a good main in general would be nice too.

I am currently sitting here with my war at 74 and my DK at 71 and not sure what to do. War seems a little too easy to play and I enjoy the complexity and style of Dk but I dunno, as I haven't actually experienced them at max level I may be wrong about that.
It just depends on what you like really. DK's (unless you're blood) are caster/healer killers, and have trouble with other melee. Warrior do well against a mix of everyone with strengths and weaknesses against different classes.

DK's are good in BG's because you can really rip people up, but if you're focused you're dead (unless you're blood).

DK's are a good main in my opinion because soloing is cake with blood spec, although you don't have many transmog options, you can still build a nice set.
So you said unless your blood a lot does that mean that BLood is bad in PvP then?
Blood is crazy in 1v1 scenarios against other melee. You have the killing power, tank cool downs, and best of all, self healing that gives you an absorb shield with Death Strike due to your Mastery stat. Blood is good in BG's and duels against other melee, though you are easily kited. Frost and Unholy aren't that good against other melee, but destroy casters and healers. So it's your choice of what to play.
Ah I see thank you very much.

Best looking xmog 1h axe?

I'm using 2 of these: Wrathful Gladiator's Cleaver

I definitely stole the idea of using them from someone on these forums but they go really well with my gear. What are you using or what do you think looks better than the one I'm using?
Nighttime.
I use Stellaris, but I've got a thread with a ton of transmogrifying weapon suggestions: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/2973027200
I'm using frost giants cleavers, but want to get the last laugh.

I personally prefer the Nifflevar Bearded Axe

Not only does it sheathe on the back, but it has the bonus of being runed for even more of a DK theme.

However, it does have the (un)fortunate side-effect of sort-of looking like a thin mace.

That weapon makes me wish they'd bring back the S5/S6 weapons.... green just doesn't do it for me. (plus Archaeology can bite me)

Thanks for reminding me about the NBA. They match my green warrior t2 well and the rune look is perfect for a DK. +1 internet.
Im using Falric's Wrist-Chopper Id like to get Troggbane, Axe of the Frostborne King
Im using Falric's Wrist-Chopper

One of the best looking axes imo

Another nice axe is The Decapitator has a nice default glow to it

4.3 Blade Barrier for Frost/Unh pvp

So blade barrier is up 24/7 now. It pretty much provides 6% damage reduction (around 600 resil).

Currently I gem full resil. 20str, 20 resil in red sockets, 40 resil in pris/yellow sockets.

Im sitting around 4.7k resil.

I was thinking of dropping 3 points in bladed armour, gemming strength and putting points into blade barrier?

Which would be most effective?
3 talent points are pretty invaluable in general. Personally, I favor Blade Barrier because I assume it's off DRs with resil and other reductions. It'll always be 6%. But you should probably do some math and see how much % damage bonus Str gemming nets you and compare that to maintaining resil gemming and shifting talents. My guess is the talents will work out to be better for damage.
